THE 'FAULTY YOGA' CAUSING AND AGRAVATING DISEASES


Contrary to common belief, real yoga is not just physical exercises or breathing exercises intended for fitness of body or regulation of oxygen intake, leading to relaxation and release of tension. Another popular notion is that yoga is aimed only at spiritual progress and emancipation of Soul.
Believing in the wrong or distorted ideas some people practice yogic exercises in the wrong way and succumb to diseases. (Some others who are not interested in spirituality and liberation of the soul, totally ignore it). Even in ancient times wrong kinds of yogic exercise and concomitant dangers were noticed by Gurus and they had warned against such practices.
"By manipulating (blocking) air by raising the tongue (in the wrong way) the eyes will be damaged, tuberculosis may be contracted and even death will pursue" -Skandan.
In one of the poems of 'Sidhars' it is warned that "headache, deafness, paralysis in one side of face, mental illness etc. can be occurred by doing wrong kinds cf yogic exercises".
In another ancient poem, it is warned that "diseases in intestine and loss of consciousness will be resulted by wrong kinds of yogic exercises".

Now a days there are examples of diseases caused by practicing of yogic exercises, either after reading books or seeing demonstrations of yogic exercises in visual media. Some others are led to dangers by 'Instructors' who give uniform methods of exercises, even to various kinds of patients. These instructors are not aware of the prana or ionizing radiations which are being increasingly absorbed through these practices, and the dangerous consequences it shall create in the C.N.S. and mind-body of most of the people. They are having the wrong notion that it is only the intake of oxygen which is regulated by 'Pranayama' (regulation of prana) It is very unfortunate that some of these instructors and even the so called gurus are not aware of the serious consequences which shall be faced by women if they practice these prana-enhaneing exercises at the period of menstruation. The C.N.S. of them will be having impurities at that time and increased intake of prana through such practices will lead to dangerous consequences on their C.N.S. and body-mind.
In a study conducted by famous cardiologists Dr.K.K.Datha and Dr.Lekshmikanthan, it was observed that blood pressure of practitioners rise about 40 m.m. Hg. while practicing almost all of the yogic physical exercises (Yogasanas). It was also observed that harmful variations occur in the pulse rate of cardiac patients while doing these exercises. Such persons should practice yogic-exercises only under the guidance of good instructors who can give instructions to choose the right exercise for them and to regulate the time schedule of the exercises. The Guru should also help the disciples to regulate the food intake, lifestyle etc.
