CONCEPTS ABOUT VITAL ENERGY IN DIFFERENT AGES AND PLACES
In the ‘Genesis’ there are descriptions about giving ‘life force’ to the boady made of clay. In the eastern ‘Vedas’ and ‘Puranas’ also we can see similar descriptions about creation. According to ‘Bhagavath Githa’ this life force (Prana) is supposed to be journeying to the moon, sun or cosmos; after departing from the body.
In the homeopathic tradition a mysterious force (Vital energy) is considered to be the important life-sustaining factor. In the Ayurvedic science this constituent of life is explained as ‘Vatha’. According to Yogic science chief prana and 10 sub pranas are instrumental in attracting the ‘life’ in to the body, and keeping it inside the body.
In Chinese and Japanese traditions this force is named ‘Chi’ and ‘Qui’ respectively. ‘Chi’ is considered to be the result of union of yin and yang (positive and negative) principles which can be compared to the pingala nadi – sun nerve (hot) and ida nadi – moon nerve (cold) in the Yogic tradition which conducts prana (hot) and apana (cold) energy respectively. In the Acupuncture medicine this energy is described as passing through the medidians.
In the Greek tradition, which was the predecessor of modern medicine, we can find similar descriptions such as Aesculopious (God of healing) Hygiea (goddess of healing-wife of Aesculopious) and panacea (goddess of universal cure-daughter of Aesculopious). Aesculopious is depicted by his ‘staff’ and Hygieia and Panacea are depicted as serpents going upwards around the symbol of Aesculopious (the staff). This concept is very much similar to the ‘Kunalini’ force, which rises and goes upwards from filum terminale inside spinal column, towards spinal cord and brain.
The logo of W.H.O is an adaptation of the concepts of God of Healing and Goddess of Healing.
The link between the lower part of spinal column and vital energy was known to the early Romans, hence the word sacrum (Sacred) for the vertebrae in this part.
These descriptions were given the realized persons who had experienced these energies in their own bodymind.
