The thesis which received the Nobel prize in Medicine/Physiology 2004 is based on the following assumption. “When an odorant receptor is activated by an odorous substance an electric signal is triggered in the olfactory receptor cell and sent to brain via nerve processes. Each odorant receptor first activates a G-Protein to which it is coupled. The G protein in turn stimulates the formation of cyclic A.M.P. These messenger molecules activate ion channels which are opened and the cell is activated.”
In fully conscious state (Jagrath) more vital radiations (Electomagnetic waves reaching from sun stars and cosmos) are absorbed to the central nervous system through Filum teminale.
“From Spinal cord and Brain these electromagnetic waves reach all sensory organs (Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and Skin) and create varying rates of ionizations in rods and cones of retina (eye), hair cell and cochlea (ears), olfactory neurons and olfactory epithelium (nose). When light, sound and molecules (smell) touch these parts the rates of ionizations are undergone variations and then the corresponding parts of brain get these messages through nerves. This process helps brain to get information about light, sound etc.” (Pranathathvam-G. Mohandas – June 2002)
“Nose:- The olfactory neurons and olfactoryepithelium are normally having resting potentials (because of ionizing radiations reaching there similar to what happen in the case of eyes etc. When substances (odorous molecules) touch these parts, rate of ionization changes and action potentials are created. These messages are gone to brain through nerves and one gets idea about smell.”
(The Vital Force”. G. Mohandas – April 2003)
We know that in deep sleep the ability of nose to sense smells is virtually nil because no Vital radiations reach olfactory neurons and olfactory epithelium at this time. Even if odorous molecules in the air touch the olfactory receptor cells no “electrical triggering” take place.
According to ancient Indian Scripture Prashna-Upanishad:- In deep sleep no sensory organs function because at this condition the Goddess (Prana or Vital energy) responsible for sensory perception is withdrawn to her source (The Soul)
